Mark Lawrenson shares his prediction ahead of Newcastle v Spurs

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Newcastle United this weekend.

Tottenham ended a poor week prior to the international break on a positive note after a 2-0 victory at Aston Villa lifted them to within three points of Chelsea who currently occupy fourth place in what looks to be a tense race for Champions League qualification.

The North Londoners record in the north east is certainly a positive, having won five of their last six visits to St. James’ Park.

Lawrenson believes that Tottenham will record back to back Premier League victories and keep a clean sheet against Steve Bruce’s strugglers.

The Magpies are sitting just two points outside of the relegation zone with Bruce said to be out of favour with some of the Toon Army faithful, having won just two of their last 20 matches in all competitions (Chronicle).

He told BBC Sport: “Newcastle badly need a lift and a win, but it is hard to see them getting either here. If fans were allowed into grounds then the Toon Army would be laying into the Magpies, and rightly so.

Tottenham have had their problems recently too, but they were decent in their win over Aston Villa last time out.

“If Son Heung-min is fit then that will be a boost for Spurs, but I still think they will win this one without him.

“Lawro’s prediction: 0-2.”
