Mark Lawrenson shares his prediction ahead of Spurs vs Manchester United

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his score prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against Manchester United this afternoon.

Spurs have lost nine league fixtures this term, Jose Mourinho has never been beaten 10 times in a league season during his managerial career.

Last time out, Lawrenson predicted that Spurs would beat Newcastle United when in fact it ended up as a frustrating 2-2 draw which saw the North Londoners miss the opportunity to move into fourth place in the Premier League table.

Tottenham have failed to win a league-high six Premier League matches this season in which they were leading at half-time, with Spurs going on to draw all six such games.

Having beaten Manchester United 6-1 earlier this season, Spurs are looking to record their first league double over the Red Devils since the 1989-90 season under Terry Venables.

Lawrenson believes that Tottenham will provide a reaction following their dropped points at St James’ Park.

He told BBC Sport: “When Tottenham beat Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford on 4 October, it wasn’t even the craziest result of the day – that was Villa’s 7-2 win over Liverpool.

“I’m not expecting the same kind of scoreline this time – since that game, United have really tightened up against other teams in the top six – but I’m still going for another Spurs win.

“A draw is not much good to Jose Mourinho’s side after they dropped points against Newcastle last week, and we might just see a reaction to his comments about their poor defensive display at St James’ Park.

“Lawro’s prediction: 2-1.”
