Marseille want Mitchell as transfer guru

Outgoing Tottenham Hotspur head of recruitment Paul Mitchell is among the names being considered by Marseille.

Mitchell handed in his notice at White Hart Lane during the close season after reportedly become disillusioned by Spurs’ restrictive transfer policy.

Mauricio Pochettino who had worked closely with Mitchell so well during their time together at Southampton had previously publicly expressed his frustration at the decision while the summer transfer window was still open:

“I feel very disappointed with his decision. It’s his personal choice.

“You know that we have a relationship from Southampton. I’m very disappointed but when someone takes a decision and it’s personal, what can I do?

“He’s still working with us and we still need to finish the three weeks working together and do the best business for the club.”

Marseille are in the process of being taken over by the owners of baseball giants  LA Dodgers owner Frank McCourt is keen to hold talks with Mitchell who is high on their shortlist.

Mitchell had previously been linked with a similar post at Leicester City, while Manchester City are also said to be big admirers.

He is still officially with the club until a departure date is mutually agreed with chairman Daniel Levy.
