Martin Keown has criticised Guglielmo Vicario, opining that the Tottenham number one is costing his side from set-pieces.
Sean Dyche and his coaching staff had picked up on a potential weakness with the way the North Londoners and Vicario defend set-pieces and they took full advantage of that for Everton to draw 2-2 with Tottenham.
Everton put a man on the Tottenham goalkeeper in every set-piece and corner kick, making it hard for him to come out of his line. That was how they got their equaliser in the first-half, with Vicario‘s complaints about being blocked off falling on deaf ears.
It was once again another set-piece that cost Tottenham in stoppage time, with Jarrad Branthwaite turning home the ball from close range after the cross came into his path off Cristian Romero‘s head.

Is Vicario to blame for recent goals?
Some question marks could perhaps be raised on Vicario’s part once again, with the Spurs number one being caught flat-footed on his line. Keown believes that Everton were full value for a point and pointed the finger directly at the Tottenham goalkeeper.
The Arsenal legend told BBC’s Final Score following the 2-2 draw: “I have to say Everton really played well. In the end, they managed to get another vital point to take them out of the bottom three and that could prove to be really important.
“For Tottenham, [their goalkeeper] Guglielmo Vicario is costing them goals from set-pieces. He should have done better [for both Everton goals].”
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite seeing the fact that Jack Harrison was blocking Vicario each time Everton got a corner, I found it inexplicable that we did not put a player on the Everton man to block him off from the goalkeeper.
Surely one of our coaching staff or perhaps even one of the players on the pitch should have seen what was happening and put someone between Vicario and Harrison in the first-half.
