‘Massively helped’ – Fraser Forster gives his opinion on Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham

Fraser Forster has admitted that Guglielmo Vicario has settled in very well since arriving at Hotspur Way last summer, admitting that the Italian is the perfect goalkeeper for the way Ange Postecoglou wants to play.

While Forster got a few opportunities last season due to Hugo Lloris’ injuries, the Englishman has largely been a spectator for much of this campaign, having played a solitary Carabao Cup game so far in 2023-24, which came back in August of last of year (Transfermarkt).

The fact that Tottenham have no European football this season for the first time in a decade and a half has not aided the 35-year-old’s chances of getting game time.

While Vicario has had a couple of shaky moments over recent weeks when it comes to dealing with crosses, there is no doubt that the number one shirt is well and truly his, with the former Empoli man having had an outstanding first season in the Premier League.

Fraser Forster is a big fan of Guglielmo Vicario

Forster was extremely complimentary of the way the 27-year-old has settled into his new surroundings and the qualities that he possesses as a goalkeeper.

Peter Crouch jokingly asked on That Peter Crouch Podcast: “Vicario’s got the jersey at the minute, how have you found him and do you hope he gets injured?”

Forster responded: “He came in the summer and he’s settled in quickly, to be fair. I think because his English is so good that’s massively helped him. But it is hard when you come to a new club.

“From my side of it, I’m getting a bit older and you’ve been in so many different situations yourself so you can appreciate it’s hard for this lad or that lad.

“He’s been brilliant, the way he’s played. He’s settled in really well, perfect for the way the manager wants to play.

“Vic’s done really well, he’s flying. That’s the nature of the position – whoever’s playing well holds the jersey. You don’t wish injury on anyone, you just hope at some point you’ll play some games.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Forster has not put a foot wrong anytime he has been given an opportunity for Tottenham but realistically, with Spurs out of the FA Cup, the former Southampton man is not going to get any game time this season unless there is an injury to Vicario.
