Mathys Tel reflects on an emotional end to the season at Spurs following their Europa League triumph – “Tottenham is not just a club, it is everything for us.”
The curtains have fallen on the 2024/25 season for Tottenham Hotspur, and what a rollercoaster it has been, both for the fans who have endured the highs and lows and the players who have fought to the very end.
Tottenham ended their Premier League campaign on a sour note, falling to a 4-1 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion in their final fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, capping off a league season that saw them finish a disappointing 17th after suffering a club-record 22 defeats from 38 games.
Yet, despite the domestic struggles, spirits remain high in north London, where the focus has shifted towards their triumph in Europe – a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final at San Mames Stadium in Spain.

Mathys Tel speaks after final Tottenham game of the season
Those jubilant celebrations carried over into the weekend’s clash with Brighton, as the Tottenham squad paraded the Europa League trophy on the pitch after full-time, receiving a guard of honour from several former Spurs players.
As the celebratory scenes unfolded, Tottenham’s media team caught up with Mathys Tel, who was instrumental on the day and has been steadily growing into his role during his time on loan in north London.
The French forward was a constant menace down the left flank, relentlessly running at the Brighton defence, and his persistence paid off when he won the penalty that allowed Dominic Solanke to coolly open the scoring.
Speaking to the club’s official channel about his recent trophy-winning experience with Spurs, Tel said: “It was incredible. This trophy was crazy for the club, for the fans, for everybody else. I am very happy about it, we did it, we deserve it.”
Pressed on whether he had envisioned how special lifting silverware with Tottenham would feel, he added: “To be honest, I am playing football to win trophies so I believe in this team, in this club, and that is why we did it. I am very happy.”
Asked how much Spurs now means to him, Tel concluded: “Tottenham is a big family with the fans, with everybody else. Tottenham is not just a club, it is everything for us. We have to keep going and win more trophies.”
Mathys Tel’s Tottenham future remains uncertain
The Bayern Munich forward’s future remains unresolved, with Tottenham yet to trigger the £46 million option that was negotiated as part of Tel’s loan agreement.
The young Frenchman initially found it difficult to settle into life in north London, struggling to leave a real mark during the opening weeks of his spell.
However, over time, he has grown more assured in the Lilywhite shirt, showcasing improvements with each outing.
He closes out his 2024/25 campaign with two goals and one assist from 13 Premier League appearances. Across all competitions, Tel ends the season with three goals and a single assist from 20 matches.
