Matt Doherty has hailed Antonio Conte as an ‘unbelievable’ manager and admitted that he hopes Tottenham stick with the Italian.
After Conte’s furious tirade aimed at the Spurs squad on Saturday, reports have indicated that the Italian has lost a portion of the Tottenham dressing room and that some players would be happy to see him go immediately (The Sun).
Some publications have reported over the last two days that the most likely scenario at the moment is for the 53-year-old to be sacked and for Ryan Mason to be put in charge on a temporary basis until the end of the season (Evening Standard).
The writing looks to be on the wall for Conte but Doherty has insisted that the 53-year-old is capable of turning things around if the Lilywhites stick with him.
The Republic of Ireland international suggested that the Tottenham head coach would have not said anything publicly that he had not told the players to their faces.
When asked about Conte’s future, Doherty told The Independent: “Look, I hope he stays for a long time at Tottenham.

“He’s an unbelievable coach, an unbelievable manager.
“He won’t say anything in the press that he won’t say to his players.
“He’s completely honest with his players, has the passion for the whole club.
“For me, I hope Tottenham stick by him and hold onto him for as long as possible.
“He’s one of the best managers of all time.”

Doherty has every right to be a little angry with Conte, given the way the Italian talked about him publicly a few months ago and his lack of opportunities this season.
However, the 31-year-old has chosen to remain classy in public, which is far from what can be said about Conte’s behaviour.
