Mauricio Pochettino provides update on Christian Eriksen’s future at Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the future of Christian Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur after the midfielder fired his club a step closer to a top four finish.

The Dane finally managed to score the crucial goal to break the deadlock against a stubborn Brighton side in the 88th minute at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Eriksen is out of contract in North London next summer and there has been no positive news directly from the club, the player or his representatives about extending his stay in N17.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a possible summer move to Real Madrid as the club must weigh up cashing in on the player or risk him leaving the club for free 12 months later.

Pochettino admitted that there was no news on a potential breakthrough and described the situation as ‘different’.

Losing Eriksen would be a major blow for Tottenham, as he has provided the team with many memorable moments down the years.

Pochettino told Football.London: “No news. It’s a very special situation. Christian is a special person and we’re all different. Timing for him and the club and agreeing something are maybe different to other players. I hope he will be here in the future. Christian and us are so close and it’s not long until the end of the season now and it’s about being focused on the end of the season.”
