Mauricio Pochettino responds to Real Madrid rumours

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has come under fire for the team’s poor start to the season with some pundits questioning if his time at Tottenham Hotspur has run its course (Sky Sports).

The Argentine was insistent after the defeat to Leicester City last Saturday that he was pleased with the team’s performance (Football.London).

However, if Spurs don’t turn their results around quickly, the pressure will continue to mount on both Pochettino and the players.

Another manager who is under pressure after a poor start to the season is Zinedine Zidane. While Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday gave the Frenchman some reprieve, his long term future at the club is still in doubt.

The Mirror report that Pochettino remains Los Blancos’ main target to replace Zidane and that the Spanish giants are now planning on making a fresh approach for the 47-year-old.

The Spurs manager was present at the Fifa Best Awards last night and in an interview at the event was asked if he would consider taking over at Madrid.

The Independent reported that the Pochettino responded with: “Maybe some year.”

While Pochettino might have rejected Real Madrid’s approaches in the past, he has made no secret of his desire to one day manage at the Spanish capital. Given Madrid’s persistent interst in the Argentine, it does look like they will eventually get their man. Let’s hope that it won’t happen for a good few years and that the Argentine wins some silverware in North London before getting his dream move.
