Mauricio Pochettino reveals who he wanted to play in the Champions League Final

It has almost been a month since Tottenham lost the Champions League final to Liverpool, and, hopefully, the Spurs squad can look back on the campaign with happy memories.

From qualifying out of the group with a draw away to Barcelona, to demolishing Borussia Dortmund, putting four past Man City, and scoring three second-half goals against Ajax, Tottenham had a sublime run in Europe.

Unfortunately, Spurs were unable to scoop the trophy on their first time of asking, but it was still an enormous stepping stone for this growing club.

Liverpool were 2-0 victors on the night, scoring an early penalty inside a minute before adding a second late on as Spurs committed more men to their attacks.

The Reds found themselves 3-0 down to Barca after the first leg of their semi-final in Spain, but came back to win 4-0 at Anfield to knock the European giants out.

Poch has now revealed that he would have rather played Barcelona for this reason (Sky Sports): “I would have preferred to play Barcelona in the Champions League final, in Madrid. I was looking forward to playing against Messi, for the rivalry I have with him.”
