An article in The Mail states that one of the reasons might be the use of blackcurrants by the nutritional team at Tottenham. The article says a study by the University of Chichester has revealed they dramatically improve running performance in footballers. Use of the fruit showed reduced slowing of sprint times during repeated high-intensity sprint tests.
It adds that academy footballers experienced 12 per cent less fatigue, which is of note given a disproportionate number of goals are scored in the last 15 minutes.
Following the research, a number of Premier League sides have been using the supplement CurraNZ to improve their players’ performance, with Spurs one of the first to latch onto the product.
Less beer more blackcurrants guys, or blackcurrant beer perhaps!
