‘Maybe it’s time’ – Arturo Vidal makes claim about his future amidst Spurs links

Rumoured Tottenham target Arturo Vidal has admitted that his time in Europe could be over and he may return to South America this summer.

Antonio Conte knows Vidal well, having signed the midfielder during his time in charge of both Juventus and Inter Milan.

However, the 34-year-old has struggled for minutes under Simone Inzaghi at Inter so far this season (Transfermarkt).

El Deportivo reported last month that Vidal had decided to part ways with the Nerrazuri at the end of the season and that Conte has contacted the midfielder regarding a potential move to Spurs.

This was subsequently backed up by La Tercera (via Sport Witness), who suggested that Tottenham were competing with Galatasaray for the experienced midfielder’s signature.

The likes of Aston Villa and Marseille are also thought to be watching the Chilean international’s situation closely (CalcioMercato).

However, Vidal has now admitted his desire to return to South American football and to play for Brazilian giants Flamengo.

He told TNT Sports: “Maybe it’s time to finish my European chapter and I dream of playing for Flamengo. I love Flamengo, I will play for them one day – I will do my best.

“It’s a competitive team, the best in South America and everyone who plays there would love to be at Flamengo.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Vidal was actually on Tottenham’s wishlist ahead of the summer, given that the midfielder is now in the twilight of his career. I suspect the speculation has come about due to the Conte connection but I would expect Paratici to be looking at midfielders of a much younger profile than the Chilean.
