Media outlet accuses Postecoglou of ‘underestimating’ one player at Tottenham

German outlet Illertisser Zeitung (as relayed by Sport Witness) have been extremely complimentary of Eric Dier after his Champions League heroics, suggesting that the centre-back has proved Ange Postecoglou wrong.

As one would expect, the German media have been extremely complimentary of Dier after his impressive display in the two legs of the Champions League quarterfinals against Arsenal.

The centre-back struggled to get much of a look in at Tottenham during the first half of the season, with Postecoglou even opting to play Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in the heart of the defence over the Englishman.

Was Eric Dier underestimated by Postecoglou?

The 30-year-old has got regular football under his belt since his move to Bavaria and is now keeping both Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae out of the starting eleven.

The former Spurs man delivered what was arguably his best display in a Bayern shirt on Wednesday as the Bundesliga club emerged 1-0 winners in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, thus knocking the Gunners out of the competition.

On the back of Dier’s display, Illertisser Zeitung have suggested that the defender has proved a point to his former employers.

It is asserted that the England international was considered a ‘discounted model’ by Postecoglou, with the Australian not feeling that he could be useful in his set-up.

The publication adds that Dier has ‘found happiness’ in Munich since his move and shows why those at Tottenham were wrong to ‘underestimate’ him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dier had shown time and again at Tottenham that he can be a very useful player in the right system and he was never as bad as some Spurs fans seemed to suggest. I am over the moon that he has been able to get his career back on track at Bayern.
