‘Medical expert’ claims Spurs player may need lifestyle change after latest injury

Injury expert Ben Dinnery claims Tottenham star Ryan Sessegnon may need a change of lifestyle to prevent an accumulation of hamstring problems.

The 21-year-old picked up a muscle injury in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in mid-December which was expected to rule him out for a fortnight.

The issue represents Sessegnon’s third setback of the campaign already, which has limited him to just seven appearances in all competitions and one Premier League start under Antonio Conte.

In response, the Italian said Tottenham need to find a solution for Sessegnon to reduce the risk of injuries happening once fit.

Dinnery, who tracks player injuries across the Premier League, offered his view as to how the England U21 international can look to address his niggling hamstring issues.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “It’s a worry and concern that he keeps on having these setbacks.

“He has missed around four months cumulatively to hamstring problems and we know that one of those injuries occurred around that pre-season block. The medical research tells you that the less time you have on the training pitches, the less robust you are.

“He does seem to be picking up a lot of these hamstring problems. But it is not as simple as addressing one issue. There could be several influencing factors as to why he keeps on suffering these setbacks. That’s up to the club to identify them.

“That might mean changing aspects of his training or his lifestyle. It could be genetic. At this stage, we just don’t know.

“Thankfully, this one isn’t too serious. Let’s hope it’s just one of those minor setbacks that can be addressed along the way.

“Conte is a big Sessegnon fan so if he can stay fit then he has a big future at the club under him.”

Sessegnon is quite clearly a talented player but it is a shame that he has been hampered by injuries during his time at Spurs. Something definitely has to change to prevent them from happening. Hopefully, he can soon get a run of games and stay fit.
