Emerson Royal has revealed that Antonio Conte is in the process of instilling a competitive mentality at Tottenham Hotspur and the defender is confident the side can claim silverware under his guidance.
The 22-year-old, who joined Spurs from Barcelona in the summer, has become a fixture in Conte’s system, seemingly making the right wing-back spot as his own in a 3-4-3 formation.
Although he is yet to record a goal or assist in the Premier League, Emerson has not shied away from going forward and is continuing to build confidence in a system placing importance on his and Sergio Reguilon’s roles on the flanks.
While Conte is still fine-tuning the formation into one he can trust on a week in, week out basis, Emerson has already started to understand just why the Italian has been regarded as such a coveted coach in recent years.
The Brazil international revealed the former Inter Milan coach is teaching the Spurs squad they can achieve anything, with a winning mentality being instilled across the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Emerson said: “Conte arrived with a really competitive mentality. That’s not a criticism of the previous manager. He’s teaching us all to give everything.
“From day one he was very clear with us. In his opinion, Tottenham Hotspur can win trophies and can beat anyone.

“There is nothing that can stop us from doing that and that is a mentality we have to get into our head.”

The insight from Emerson is interesting and just what we expected from Conte as soon as he came into the club. Hopefully, we will start to see the work translate onto the pitch going forward and time will tell if Conte’s methods are being successfully taken in.
