‘Mentality of staying’ – Bryan Gil comments on his future at Tottenham

Bryan Gil has been looking ahead to the future and revealed he is unsure whether he will remain at Tottenham Hotspur or not, but insisted he wants it resolved as smoothly as possible.

The 22-year-old joined Tottenham in the summer of 2021, but has been unable to push past the peripheries of the squad and become a regular in the first team.

In both of his seasons at the club, he has spent just as much time out on loan as he has in North London.

Even when he is with Spurs, Gil has had to settle for bit-part substitute appearances by and large.

Gil showed some glimpses of promise under Antonio Conte earlier this season, but was ultimately sent on loan to his former club Sevilla in January.

With the end of his loan deal in sight, Gil has been pondering what the future may hold for him.

In an interview with AS, the Spaniard made it clear that he is open to staying at Spurs, but either way he would prefer for things to be a little more straightforward this summer.

He said: “It is too soon to know what will happen.

“What I do want is to have a quiet summer, because I’ve already had a couple of very busy years with whether I go out or not.

“If I have to leave or stay, let it be something clear.

“I will go [back to Spurs] with the mentality of staying because I have a contract and if I leave, it will be what they have decided.”

Clearly, Gil would be more than open to leaving Spurs and staying in Spain if that is what the club wants.

But, it does sound like he is ready and willing to come back to London and fight for his place, and I think he should be given that chance.
