‘Mess’ – Alan Shearer names how many summer signings Spurs need to make

Alan Shearer thinks Tottenham Hotspur need to add as many as five top players to their squad this summer if they are to continue playing the way they currently are.

A lot of the early optimism surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s project at Spurs has now dissipated, with some fans starting to wonder if the side can be successful with this approach.

The Lilywhites have now lost four on the bounce in the Premier League, conceding 13 goals in the process while they also have not inspired confidence going forward.

Postecoglou was quite candid last week about what Spurs need to do this summer, admitting that the squad needs major surgery.

The Australian confessed that he will have to make some tough decisions by letting go of some good players as the club need to bring in players who are better suited to their current system (Football.London).

How many summer signings do Tottenham need?

Shearer believes that Spurs would have to replace nearly half of their starting eleven to have success playing the way they currently do.

The Newcastle legend told The Rest Is Football Podcast: “I know they came back into it a bit, Tottenham, but it was too little too late. They are an absolute mess at the back, they are conceding goals for fun. As soon as they lose the ball, they are so easy to play against.

“Their injuries haven’t helped, but they’re just not good enough and they need new players in. For the way the manager wants to play, they need another three, four, five players at least to try and get to where they want to be.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the reports over the last few weeks, it seems like Spurs want to sign a centre-forward, a winger, a number eight, a number six and a versatile centre-back, who can also operate as a full-back this summer.
