Micah Richards finds it ‘strange’ that Spurs star is not linked with Real Madrid or Barcelona

Micah Richards is surprised that Heung-min Son never seems to be linked with the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona, despite maintaining such high standards at Tottenham.

Since joining Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Sonny has gone from strength to strength, improving almost every single year in North London.

The South Korean is currently on 159 goals and 88 assists in 397 games for the Lilywhites and has taken on the role of club captain since Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane left N17 in the past 12 months (TransferMarkt).

Despite being 31 years old, Son has arguably never been more important to Tottenham Hotspur and reports indicate that the club will look to tie him down to a new contract in the summer (Football Insider).

It does seem strange that, despite putting up such consistent numbers and proving himself as a big-game player over the past decade, none of the biggest clubs in the world have ever come knocking for Son.

Why has no one come knocking for Heung-min Son?

Gary Lineker believes the answer is simple, because he is already playing for a big club. Richards, on the other hand, can’t get his head around the seeming lack of interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He said (The Rest is Football): “You know the strange thing when we talk about top players and we always give Son his credit. But you know when people are sort of linked with teams, Son never really seems to get linked with a Barcelona or a Real Madrid.

He added: “They’re a massive club, Spurs! But I mean he’s world-class, literally. He’s unbelievable. His work-rate, his technique, his running in behind, his finishing. He’s got absolutely everything.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It does seem strange that Son has seemingly never had a big offer. Harry Kane was linked with a big move away from Spurs almost every summer of his career, and perhaps that detracted from Son and his future. Or maybe offers were made behind the scenes but Son simply wanted to stay at Spurs.
