Micah Richards left impressed with work rate of Harry Kane’s team-mate

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has singled out Dejan Kulusevski for praise following his performance at the Etihad Stadium yesterday evening.

The 21-year-old was handed his first Premier League start by Antonio Conte since joining Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Juventus last month, taking the place of Lucas Moura in a front three alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

The Swedish international opened the scoring for Spurs in the fourth minute of the game when a swift counter attack saw Harry Kane release Heung-min Son, who unselfishly squared the ball to Kulusevski to find the back of the net for his first goal for the club.

Kulusevski was tasked with not only trying to catch City on the break, but having to track back and help out with defensive duties on the right-hand side of the pitch with Pep Guardiola’s side focused on attacking Emerson Royal’s flank.

Kulusevski went on to provide the vital cross for Harry Kane’s winner deep into injury time to cap off an impressive display

Souness, who was appearing as a pundit as part of Sky Sports‘ live television coverage on their Premier League channel said after the match (19/02/22 at 19:25): “Kulusevski, I thought was outstanding as well tonight. The work-rate he put in tonight (was brilliant).”

Kulusevski has certainly made fans sit up and take notice of his ability to help out on both sides of the ball and displayed great stamina in what was an energy-sapping performance, to have the composure late in the match to deliver a pin-point cross to Kane showed that Tottenham could have a real player on their hands.
