Micah Richards predicts whether Spurs can win trophy and Kane can win golden boot

Micah Richards has backed Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot this season as he believes that the England captain will want to prove himself again on the back of his recent injury troubles.

After winning two successive Golden Boots in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 season, the striker has been plagued by injury problems over the last three years.

The 27-year-old was sidelined for several months after rupturing his hamstring back in January but he did end the season looking sharp in front of goal.

Richards has backed Kane to finish as the league’s top scorer this time out but he also tipped new Chelsea signing Timo Werner to push him all the way.

The former Manchester City defender told The Daily Mail: “Harry Kane (will win the Golden Boot). He will want to reassert himself as the main man.

“He wasn’t too far off last season, when he missed so many games through injury.

“With a clear run, he will come out on top, though I do expect Timo Werner to run him close.”

Richards also backed Jose Mourinho to guide Spurs to a domestic trophy if he is backed by the club.

When asked if the 57-year-old can turn Spurs into winners, he said: “Definitely. I am not saying Mourinho is going to win the Premier League or the Champions League with Tottenham because the squad isn’t at that level.

“But if he stays at the club long enough — and is given the right opportunity — I can certainly see him winning one of the domestic cups. The man is a serial winner and winning the FA Cup would be amazing for Spurs.”

The big question with Kane is whether or not he will be able to remain fit for the whole season. If he does, then there is no question that he is the favourite to win the Golden Boot. However, if we fail to sign a suitable backup to take some workload off the 27-year-old, we will only have ourselves to blame if his body breaks down again during the busy winter period.
