Michael Brown predicts who will win between Spurs and Everton

Michael Brown has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to kick off the new Premier League season with a victory against Everton.

The former Spurs midfielder believes that the North Londoners will just have enough to pip Carlo Ancelotti’s side to all three points in what he claims will be a tight affair.

Everton have won just three of their 28 away Premier League matches against Tottenham (D8 L17), with all three wins coming in consecutive seasons between 2006-07 and 2008-09 – they are winless in 11 visits since November 2008 (D4 L7).

Brown left Spurs out of his prediction of who will finish in the top four of the Premier League come the end of the season (BBC) but does feel that Jose Mourinho’s side have an outside chance of gatecrashing the party.

Spurs missed out on a fifth successive top finish last season and another campaign of Champions League football after finishing in sixth position in the table.

He told Football Insider: “I didn’t put them top four and I did stress, which you haven’t seen on the BBC, I do think we could see a real positive performance from Spurs.

“I wouldn’t write them off getting in the top four, I just believe if we’re talking about the consistency and the players who are around, you would expect the top four that I’ve said.

“I did actually state that I would not be surprised if Tottenham did make the top four.”

Asked whether he thought Spurs could get off to a perfect start against Everton, Brown said: “I can see Spurs winning it. I think it’ll be a very, very tight game but I can see Spurs winning it.”
