Michael Dawson claims Spurs star will be disappointed with mistake against Burnley

Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has claimed that Hugo Lloris would have been left disappointed by the manner in which he conceded against Burnley during the 1-1 draw on Saturday.

The Frenchman parried Jay Rodriguez’s long-range effort straight into the path of fellow forward Chris Wood, who swept home the Clarets’ opener.

Dele Alli equalised from the spot in the second half after Ben Mee brought substitute Erik Lamela down inside the box.

Lloris spent nearly four months on the sidelines after dislocating his elbow in the 3-0 defeat against Brighton early in the season but he has been in excellent form since returning to action early last month.

Dawson believes the Spurs number one is up there with the best in the world but insisted that he let himself down at Turf Moor.

Speaking about his former team-mate, the Nottingham Forest defender told Sky Sports Premier League (07/03/20 at 19:35 pm): “Jay Rodriguez, it’s a great strike but, Hugo, with the quality he has, world-class keeper, he would be disappointed in that.

“But Chris Wood. He’s a goalscorer. He’s always sniffing around for anything that might fumble and that time it did.

“There was one in the second half that has gone into Hugo Lloris and he’s kept hold of it. He’s a top keeper but he’ll be disappointed with that.”

I thought Hugo was taken by surprise by how quickly Rodriguez took his shot and he certainly didn’t handle it well. However, he has proved since his return that he is indeed world-class on his day and that he is still good enough to save us a lot of points over the course of the season.
