Michael Dawson confident that Spurs star ‘will’ stay beyond end of this season

Michael Dawson has confidently asserted that Hugo Lloris will sign a contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur.

Lloris is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs as the Frenchman is into the final six months of his contract at Tottenham.

The goalkeeper is reported to be attracting interest from Ligue 1 clubs, with Nice and Rennes both alleged to be keen on snapping him up (Foot Mercato and FranceBleu).

Antonio Conte has maintained that he is not worried about the 35-year-old’s contract situation and insisted he expects the goalkeeper to put pen on paper on a new deal.

Fichajes journalist Ekrem Konur said last week that Tottenham number one has responded ‘positively’ to the club’s contract offer while Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has backed a deal to be finalised ‘very soon’.

Dawson is confident that his former Spurs teammate will commit his future to the North London club, stressing the importance of hanging on the goalkeeper.

The former Tottenham centre-back told Sky Sports News (1:03 pm, January 15, 2022): “He (Lloris) has been really good.

“This year he has been 35, they are trying to tie him down to a new contract, that will happen. It is vital to keep him.”

If it was any other player in Lloris’ situation, I would be concerned over him potentially negotiating a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.

However, Hugo has proven his loyalty to Spurs over the years and there is no reason to think that he would make unrealistic demands or reject offers made by the club.
