Michael Dawson has clear preference for Thomas Frank’s Tottenham replacement, not Pochettino

Michael Dawson wants to see a Tottenham legend take over from Thomas Frank, but there may be one stumbling block to the move.

Many Tottenham fans are relieved at the news of Frank’s sacking after just two wins from the last 17 Premier League games.

The big decision Tottenham have to make now is who should replace Frank in the Spurs dugout – either permanently or on an interim basis until the end of the season.

A former Lilywhites captain – Michael Dawson – has now recommended one name, but a journalist has explained why the candidate may not be a realistic target.

Michael Dawson wants to see Robbie Keane in the Tottenham dugout

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has revealed that Dawson texted him the name of his former Spurs teammate Robbie Keane.

Keane led Ferencvaros to the Hungarian title last season, and he has guided the Budapest outfit to a 12th-place finish in the league phase of the Europa League this term.

However, Bridge has his doubts over whether the former Tottenham striker would be open to an interim role at N17.

The journalist said on Sky Sports News: “Michael Dawson has just texted me saying ‘Robbie Keane’. However, I was told that he would not come as an interim, I think. He has done ever so well abroad, but that’s a very interesting one from Dawson there. Would he do it as an interim? I don’t know.”

Spurs risk losing it all if they make the wrong move

One can understand why the club may be keen on appointing an interim as Tottenham’s top managerial targets are not likely to be available until the summer.

However, the Lilywhites are in an extremely precarious position at the moment, sitting just five points clear of the drop zone.

An inexperienced appointment at this stage that fails to work could see Spurs pay the ultimate price: relegation from the Premier League for the first time in their history.
