Michael Dawson ‘sure’ that Conte will not let Spurs man leave in January

Michael Dawson believes Antonio Conte will not let Dele Alli leave Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Alli’s stock has fallen considerably over the last couple of years, with the Spurs man going from being a regular in the England team to struggling to get opportunities at club level.

In the first few weeks after Conte’s arrival at Tottenham, it seemed as though the 25-year-old was going to find it difficult to get any minutes at all under the Italian.

Reports indicated at the time that the Spurs boss had given the club’s hierarchy the green light to cash in on the former MK Dons man in January.

The likes of Newcastle United and West Ham were alleged to be showing interest in Alli ahead of the transfer window.

However, over the last couple of weeks, multiple sources, including The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke and Fabrizio Romao (the Here We Go Podcast – starting at 16.14), have claimed that Conte may have had a change of heart regarding Alli.

Dawson is confident that the Italian will persist with the England international.

The former Spurs defender said on Sky Sports News (1:54 pm, December 26, 2021): “I can see why Newcastle want to sign him. Is he going to improve them? Of course, he is.

“But now he is going to get an opportunity. We saw him come on against West Ham in the Cup.

“I am sure Antonio Conte is probably thinking, ‘No, we are working with him. We can’t let him go.”

At this moment, it seems like Lo Celso or Ndombele are more likely to leave Spurs in January than Dele is. However, the 25-year-old is going to need more than a couple of good performances to convince Conte that he deserves to be part of his long-term plans.
