Former Manchester United and England forward Michael Owen has given his prediction ahead of the Boxing Day clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.
Jose Mourinho’s side go into the match in seventh place in the Premier League table after failing to capitalise on the opportunity to go fourth following the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 13 top-flight Boxing Day games (W10 D3) since losing 0-2 at Portsmouth in 2003. Their last such home defeat was back in 1991 against Nottingham Forest (1-2).
In the return fixture earlier this season, Brighton were comfortable 3-0 winners in a match which will be remembered for Hugo Lloris’ elbow injury.
Owen has tipped Spurs to take all three points from a closely contested affair at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He told BetVictor: “Both sides will be looking to bounce back after disappointing home losses over the weekend and I take Spurs to edge a low-scoring affair.
Jose Mourinho will have been hurt by Frank Lampard’s tactical masterclass, and Chelsea’s superiority, on Sunday and he must do without the suspended Son Heung-Min for the visit of the Seagulls. Spurs need to win or the honeymoon period for Mourinho is over in north London.”
Mourinho will be looking for a response from his players following the poor display against Chelsea, where we were second best: especially after failing to contest in midfield.
