Michael Owen on who will win between Southampton and Spurs

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Southampton.

Jose Mourinho’s side begin 2020 with a trip to the south coast and will be looking to put their disappointing form of 2019 behind them.

Chelsea’s late victory against Arsenal meant that the fourth-placed Blues now have a five point advantage over Tottenham in the table and the lilywhites can little afford the gap stretching to eight points.

Mourinho has never lost an away league match against Southampton in six previous meetings (W3 D3) – Mourinho has faced Saints more often than any other side without losing away from home in his managerial league career.

Harry Kane found his shooting boots over the festive period with a goal apiece against Brighton and Norwich. The Spurs striker has scored in six consecutive Premier League appearances against Southampton.

Owen has tipped Tottenham to take all three points from the New Year’s Day encounter.

He told BetVictor: “Southampton have lost just two of their last eight league games, but they continue to pick up more points on the road than they do on home soil.

“Spurs came from behind twice to get a draw at Norwich at the weekend and won the reverse fixture at the Tottenham Stadium 2-1 back in September despite playing for an hour with 10-men. I expect the visitors to take all three points at St Mary’s.

“Spurs to win.”
