Michael Owen on who will win between Spurs and West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur are back in action this weekend when West Ham United are the visitors to the new stadium for a Saturday lunchtime kick off.

With the Hammers having secured their place in the Premier League next season and currently occupying eleventh position in the table, they will still look to raise their game in what is essentially their ‘cup final’ and would love the bragging rights of taking the first points off Tottenham at their new home.

Spurs have enjoyed a 100% record since returning to North London from Wembley, having won all four fixtures and are yet to concede a goal.

Despite Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United having all dropped points nothing less than a victory will do for many Spurs supporters to go one step nearer to securing a top four finish for yet another season.

Former Liverpool and England forward Michael Owen believes that Spurs will have enough to win, but will see the first goal scored against them at the 62,062 capacity seater stadium.

He told BetVictor: “It looked like being one of those nights for Spurs against Brighton midweek but Christian Eriksen’s late winner was enough to give the hosts their fourth successive win since moving into the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they have yet to concede a goal in that run. West Ham played their part in a terrific game against Leicester last weekend, but they continue to leak goals and I feel the hosts will gain another valuable three points although they may lose their proud defensive home record.”

A victory for Spurs would be a monumental step towards a third place finish and also provide a likely confidence boost for the Champions League clash against Ajax in midweek.
