Michael Owen predicts misery for ‘disciplined’ Spurs at Old Trafford

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has shared his match prediction ahead of tomorrow’s game between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs’ trip to United last season was Mourinho’s first defeat as the new head coach in what was just his third game in charge of the North Londoners.

However, that now seems like an eternity ago, with the Portuguese coach having put his own stamp on the squad, not just tactically but also in terms of personal, with the Lilywhites having been extremely busy in the current transfer window.

In fact, Spurs are going about their business quietly, with Mourinho’s men having been beaten just once in their last 13 competitive matches in all competitions – the 1-0 defeat to Everton in their opening game of this campaign.

United have started the season sluggishly, having been beaten by Crystal Palace in their first game of the season and being extremely lucky to pick up all three points against Brighton last weekend.

However, Owen expects Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side to get the better of Tottenham tomorrow.

Speaking to BetVictor, the former Liverpool striker said: “This match has the added twist that Mourinho returns to Old Trafford. These are situations he thrives in and I expect Spurs to be disciplined.

“United have had problems of their own in their first two matches even though they managed to nick the points last week at Brighton, and I think they could have just enough to edge it here.”

Despite how free-flowing we have been going forward in recent games, I too expect Mourinho to take a more cautious approach on Sunday. Fans who are expecting both Ndombele and Lo Celso to start in the middle of the park are likely to be disappointed.

I would not be surprised if we went with a back three, with Doherty and Reguilon as wing-backs, similar to how we set up against Chelsea. I am pretty certain that both Hojbjerg and Winks will keep their place in the side from the team that started on Thursday.
