Michael Owen predicts Tottenham’s clash against Manchester City

With the international break done and dusted, Tottenham fans can now look forward to seeing their side back in action tomorrow evening and it does not get much bigger than a clash against Manchester City.

The game kicks off what will be an extremely challenging run of fixtures over the next month for Jose Mourinho’s men as they square off against most of the sides fancied to be in and around the top six spots.

The match tomorrow could set the precedent for what’s about to come and a good result could be crucial for building momentum.

Spurs overcame City 2-0 in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season in what could be best described as a ‘Mourinho masterclass’, with the home side sitting deep and hitting City on the counter.

One could expect a similar pattern to the game on Saturday, and Owen admitted that it is a difficult match to predict.

However, the former Manchester United and Liverpool striker backed City to take all three points in North London.

He told The Metro: “I’m really looking forward to this one. A lot of people fancy Tottenham to go well this season. They have cover in every position with players of international quality and in a season where squads of both depth and quality are most definitely needed, it could well work in Spurs’ favour.

‘I’m still trying to work out Manchester City. I’ve watched Pep Guardiola in a few post-match interviews recently, and I can’t help but feel if there is something missing there.

“I’m not quite sure if that translates to the players but either way, I think this will be a tight game and a difficult one to call.

“However, if City can find their best form, I think they’ll be taking all three points back to Manchester. Tottenham 1-2 Manchester City.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There did appear to be something missing with City in comparison to previous seasons but I suspect that might be due to Pep Guardiola’s unwillingness to commit to the club. Now that he has put pen to paper on a new contract, we could see a reaction from the City players on Thursday, which could make our task more difficult. A point will be a good result for us.
