Michael Owen predicts whether Tottenham will make it out of their CL group

Spurs fans are still recovering from the Champions League final heartbreak they experienced against Liverpool a couple of months ago. However, football never stops and its already time to look ahead to this year’s competition.

The group stage draw for the Champions League was completely yesterday and Tottenham were drawn in Group B along with Bayern Munich, Olympiacos, and Red Star Belgrade.

Tottenham were the only English club in pot 2, with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea all going into pot one.

While City were drawn with Shakhtar Donetsk, Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta in Group C, Liverpool, who won the Champions League last season, will lock horns with Napoli, Salzburg, and Genk in Group E.

The Europa League winners, Chelsea meanwhile have Ajax, Valencia, and Lille in their group. All English teams are expected to progress from their groups with Manchester City and Liverpool being favourites to win their respective groups.

Former Liverpool striker Michel Owen took to social media to opine that it was a tricky draw for both Chelsea and Spurs but said he expects both clubs to join Manchester City and Liverpool in the knock out stages.

While the group looks quite straight forward on paper, it is worth remembering that Tottenham were knocked out in the group stage in the 16/17 season from what looked to be an easy group. The away games against Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade will be extremely hard and Spurs cannot afford to underestimate either team.
