Michael Owen shares his concerns for Spurs ahead of Everton opener

Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s first Premier League match of the new season.

Everton are the visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon in what will be Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge of the North Londoners.

Mourinho has a relatively full fit to choose from with only Japhet Tanganga ruled out with a thigh problem, while a decision will be made on the fitness of Giovani Lo Celso who is carrying a hamstring issue (Spurs official).

Owen believes that Tottenham will miss out on a top four finish for the second season in succession which would see the club once more not feature in the lucrative Champions League.

The ex-striker also claimed that he is not expecting Mourinho’s side to end their twelve year wait for silverware.

Owen has tipped Everton to be in the lead going into the half time break, with both sides sharing the points in a goalscoring draw.

He told BetVictor: “I have a few concerns about the current situation at Spurs and I think they could be in for a disappointing season. I can’t see them finishing below halfway in the league but equally, I can’t see them challenging for honours or a place in the top four.

“Everton on the other hand have been quietly going about their business in pre-season and I think they could well have their best season in a long while.

“Everton HT / Draw FT.”
