Michael Owen shares his Manchester City vs Spurs prediction

Tottenham Hotspur caused somewhat of a surprise during their Champions League quarter final first leg against Manchester City

Heung-min Son’s late goal saw Spurs run out as 1-0 winners on the night and deny City what could have proven to be a vital away goal when Hugo Lloris saved Sergio Aguero’s spot kick.

However, many still consider Spurs to have an uphill task to make it to the semi final given City’s dominance which still sees them on course to win an unpredicted quadruple this season.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to make changes from the side which beat Huddersfield Town 4-0 in the Premier League on Saturday with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Heung-min Son all named on the substitutes bench.

Spurs go into the match knowing that if they score an away goal, it will mean that Pep Guardiola’s side will need to score three goals and former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that it will be City who will win.

He told BetVictor: “City returned to the top of the Premier League table – however briefly – with an excellent performance at Selhurst Park on Sunday when Raheem Sterling again showed what a vital cog he is to the City machine.

“Spurs were able to rest a number of key players against Huddersfield at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the weekend and this is a difficult game to call as a result of Sergio Aguero’s early penalty miss in the first leg.

“I expect to see opportunities at both ends. This is the start of a massive week for City who entertain Spurs back at the Etihad at the weekend in the Premier League before the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford next midweek.

“City to win with Sterling again to the fore.”
