Michael Owen shares his view on the outcome of Spurs v Southampton

Former Liverpool and Manchester United forward Michael Owen has shared his opinion ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Southampton.

The Saints are the visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow night in the FA Cup fourth round replay with a tie at home to Norwich City awaiting the winners.

Spurs will certainly be buoyed by their 2-0 victory against Manchester City on Sunday heading into the match while Southampton were comfortably beaten 4-0 at Anfield by runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham’s trip to St Mary’s in the original tie was a tight affair and it looked as if Heung-min Son’s goal would prove to be enough to secure the win until substitute Sofiane Boufal struck three minutes before time.

Owen believes that it will be another closely contested match under the lights in N17 which could be decided by a penalty shoot out and failed to predict who would progress to the fifth round.

He told BetVictor: “Both sides fielded strong teams in a cracking tie at St Mary’s and I hope to see more of the same at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“Some may feel Spurs have done the hard job in earning a home replay, but Southampton are a potent force on the road, and I think you can draw a line through events at Anfield at the weekend even though the Saints matched the runaway league leaders for 45 minutes.

“I can’t split the sides and would not be surprised if the tie was only decided from the penalty spot.”
