Micky van de Ven is amazed at how hard one Tottenham teammate works

Micky van de Ven has praised Guglielmo Vicario’s shot-stopping ability and also hailed the work that the goalkeeper consistently puts in off the pitch.

Spurs fans will acknowledge that Van de Ven has been the signing of the season, with the Dutchman having a transformative effect on the backline.

However, Vicario is not too behind, with the Italian’s addition arguably being just as important for Ange Postecoglou’s men when it comes to transitioning from a counter-attacking side to an aggressive, front-foot team.

Not only has the 27-year-old saved numerous goals for Tottenham over the course of the season but his calmness and ability to make the right decisions under pressure has enabled the Lilywhites to play out from the back with ease.

According to FBREF’s PSxG minus goals allowed metric, Vicario has saved more goals for his side than any other goalkeeper across the Premier League this season (Football365).

Micky Van de Ven is impressed by Vicario

Van de Ven has now admitted that it is reassuring for the defence to know that they have the former Empoli man behind them.

When asked about the goalkeeper, the Dutchman told Optus Sport: “Top-class keeper. I think what he showed to the world right now he’s a hardworking player. Every day in the gym, after training, before training. He’s working hard to make the best out of his career.

“As a person, he’s also a top guy. You can speak to him about anything, on the pitch, off the pitch. What he’s shown on the pitch, unbelievable performances. It’s also really nice that sometimes when an attacker comes, we know Vic is in the goal. So it’s not easy for them to score a goal. He’s shown some unbelievable performances.”

Vicario is undeniably one of the best shot-stoppers in the decision and the Italian is also a natural leader and the sort of character that we need in the dressing room if we are to compete for major honours on a regular basis.
