Micky van de Ven names ‘top class’ Spurs teammate who is hard to face in training

Discussing his club captain, Micky van de Ven has described Heung-min Son as a ‘top class’ player, someone who loves leading the team, and a football-obsessed person off the pitch, too.

Heung-min Son is having a fantastic season for Spurs, yet again contributing plenty of goals and assists. The South Korean has 13 goals and six assists already this year (Transfermarkt).

Since being named captain by Ange Postecoglou, the 31-year-old has also stepped up to be a terrific captain, leading by example and helping to bring the Spurs squad closer together than ever before.

Son has been one of the key players in what is shaping up to be a successful season for the Lilywhites. However, new signing Micky van de Ven has played a huge part, too, providing composure and stability in the Spurs defence.

What does van de Ven think of Heung-min Son?

The Dutchman was speaking to Optus Sport recently about his skipper, and had nothing but incredibly positive things to say.

When asked how he feels about Son, van de Ven said: “Yeah, [I rate him] really high. Top class player also. As a captain, as a person on and off the pitch, on the pitch, he’s always the one who wants to lead the team.

“Off the pitch, he’s always thinking about football. Of course, you have some personal conversations with him also but he’s always thinking about football and on the pitch you see how class he is. His touches, his finishing, on the pitch he’s keeping up sharp and he always goes in front of the team.”

He was then asked if Son was one of the most difficult players to face in training, and van de Ven replied: “Yeah I think so, yes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sonny is showing yet again just how much of a world-class player he is. It says a lot that we have hardly missed Harry Kane, and a lot of that is down to how much Son has stepped up in his absence.
