Micky van de Ven pulled out one of the all-time greatest Premier League assists against Manchester United, and the Spurs defender has explained what was going through his head during that incredible run.

VDV knew where to put the ball
It didn’t take long for Tottenham to take control of the game at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with the first goal coming after just three minutes.
After dispossessing Marcus Rashford deep in his own half, Micky van de Ven started to carry the ball forward and, as if by magic, pierced his way through the entire Manchester United defence and took the ball to the byline.
He then laid on a perfect pass across the box and Brennan Johnson stormed in at the back post to tap home a simple opener, and his fourth goal in four games.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, van de Ven explained why he decided to burst forward on that run, and how he knew someone would finish off the move.
He said: “We controlled the game, we knew the danger of their counter-attacks but our rest defence was good. For the goal, I intercepted the ball, I saw the gap and I knew I could get going.
“I know Brennan Johnson is always at the second post so I hit it hard, I couldn’t see the ball go in as I fell down the slope but I heard the away fans.”

An important win for Spurs
A trip to Old Trafford is never usually a happy journey for Tottenham, but they made light work of their opponents this time around.
Discussing the challenge and how special it was to get the win, van de Ven added: “This is a tough game at Old Trafford. Performance wise, we had started the season well but we needed a win and this is an important three points. We have the quality to play with this intensity in every game.”
Van de Ven is a special talent
Honestly, I’m a little bit lost for words when it comes to Micky van de Ven now. The fact he has provided not one, but two world-class assists like that already this season, pretty much just by being fast and strong and confident enough to make the run, is incredible.
With him doing things like that, and Romero continuing to show his class and composure, I do genuinely believe we have the best centre-back pairing in the Premier League.
