Midfielder comments on his future amidst Spurs links – Paratici reportedly in constant contact

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hofmann, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar, has revealed that he is yet to decide whether or not to sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

Hoffman, who has been a consistent performer for Gladbach over the years, has enjoyed his most productive season in front of goal, finishing the 2021/22 campaign with 12 goals and six assists in 28 matches (Transfermarkt).

SportBild (04/05/22 edition – via Sport Witness) claimed last month that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici is in constant communication with Hofmann regarding a summer move.

The report suggested that the midfielder, whose current deal at Borussia Park has 12 months left to run, is not interested in signing a new deal, and that Tottenham could face competition from Atletico Madrid for his services this summer.

Hoffman admitted a few days ago that he has not made a decision about his future as Gladbach are yet to appoint a new manager.

He is quoted by BuliNews as saying: “The timing just isn’t right at this moment. I can only hope that the [coaching] issue is resolved quickly so that everyone can start planning.

“An answer would simplify the situation for the club, the players, and everyone involved. It’s important to me that, when I have conversations, I look my counterpart in the eye. Discussing such things over the phone is not my style.”

However, since then, Gladbach have confirmed former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke as Adi Hutter’s successor.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hofmann will not improve Tottenham’s starting eleven and could be viewed as a squad player by Conte to replace Harry Winks, especially given his versatility. However, I suspect the Italian will want to bring in a midfielder who can compete with Bentancur, Skipp and Hojbjerg for a starting birth.
