Midfielder says criticised Spurs star is best player in training for his country

Jonny Williams has claimed that Gareth Bale is still the best player in training for Wales and admitted that it is an honour to play with the Tottenham Hotspur star.

It seemed as though Bale had turned a corner after a difficult start to the season but the Welshman has again fallen down Jose Mourinho’s pecking order over the last few weeks.

The 31-year-old once again demonstrated his quality for Wales during the international break, setting up Daniel James’ late winner as Ryan Giggs’ side overcame the Czech Republic 1-0.

There has been plenty of speculation over whether or not the winger is likely to return to Spurs on loan next season.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara certainly does not think so as he believes that Jose Mourinho is fed up with the on-loan Real Madrid star.

However, Williams is not in any doubt that Bale is still a world-class player, admitting that the experienced wide man is still head and shoulders above his international teammates in training.

The Cardiff midfielder told talkSPORT (as relayed by HITC): “He’s unbelievable.

“Even now still the same. Today, the best player in training. Most days best player in training.

“He is a pleasure to play with. Top, top person and you can now start to see that he’s fit and hungry to go and do the business.

“Every time he plays for Wales, he gives 100% and more. And it’s a pleasure to play alongside him.”

With just a couple of months left until the Euros, Bale might not really want to risk getting injured for the tournament by pushing himself too hard for Spurs. That will likely be in Mourinho’s mind which is why I do not expect the Welshman to start too many games from now until the end of the season.
