‘Might be the only way’ – Alasdair Gold makes prediction about Ndombele’s future

Alasdair Gold has claimed that while Giovani Lo Celso could be sold this summer, Tottenham might be forced to find another loan for Tanguy Ndombele next season.

Neither Lo Celso nor Ndombele got too many opportunities at Spurs under Antonio Conte and it did not come as much of a surprise when the pair joined Villarreal and Lyon on loan respectively in January.

Both players have put in some promising performances since their respective moves and while Lyon have the option to sign Ndombele permanent for £54m (Sky Sports), Villarreal have no such option with Lo Celso.

Both midfielders shone for their clubs in Europe last week, with the Argentine helping Unai Emery’s side to beat Bayern Munich 1-0 while the Frenchman found the back of the net in the London Stadium to help the Ligue 1 club emerge with a 1-1 draw against West Ham.

Gold has now claimed that Lo Celso is likely to attract plenty of interest when the transfer window reopens but suggested the same might not be true for Ndombele.

When asked about the futures of both players on a Q&A in Football.London, the journalist responded: “I think it would be tough now for both players to feature under Conte.

“Lo Celso should have suitors this summer as he has impressed in the Champions League against some big sides, but Ndombele could be harder to get the kind of money for that Spurs will want in return for their club-record signing.

“Another loan might be the only way forward as he just doesn’t seem to be a Conte player.”

Ndombele would likely need to take a substantial wage cut if Tottenham are to find a buyer for him this summer. While the Frenchman has done well at Lyon, he has not been so impressive that clubs would consider matching his salary at Spurs. The only club outside the Premier League who might be able to afford to do so are Paris Saint-Germain.
