‘Might chip in’ – Gary Lineker jokes after hearing reported Harry Kane price tag

Gary Lineker has joked that Alan Shearer would cover part of the transfer fee that Bayern Munich would have to pay to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham.

Kane’s current contract at Tottenham runs out in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and the striker continues to be heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

German publication TZ reported last month that the Bundesliga giants have identified the Spurs star as their number-one transfer target for next summer and would be willing to break the bank for the striker.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg was the latest to report on the matter this week, telling Sky Germany that Daniel Levy values the 29-year-old at €80m-€100m (£69.1m-£86.3m) amidst interest from Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Kane has his sights on Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record and the Newcastle legend joked last month that he wants to see the Tottenham man join Real Madrid to keep his record safe (talkSPORT).

Lineker believes that Shearer might even chip in to aid Bayern’s efforts to take the England captain away from the Premier League. Here’s what the former Spurs striker tweeted about the speculation:

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not even slightly worried about the possibility of Bayern signing Kane. Even if the striker refuses to sign a new contract, I do not think he could consider leaving the Premier League.

He clearly has his eye on Shearer’s record and I believe he will beat it quite comfortably. In fact, I can even see Kane potentially finishing with close to 300 Premier League goals as I believe he will continue playing in the top flight until his mid to late thirties.
