‘Might give it some thought’ – Spurs-linked manager comments on his future

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has refused to rule out a move away from the Eredivisie club this summer.

Slot has completely transformed the Feyenoord side since taking over as head coach in the summer of 2021, with the club now on course to winning their first league title since 1999.

The 42-year-old has got his side playing free-flowing, attacking football and he boasts an astonishing win percentage of 62.22 since taking over at De Kuip.

It was reported in The Times last week that Slot is one of Spurs’ top candidates to replace Antonio Conte in the summer.

Journalist Valentijn Driessen also backed up the claim a couple of days ago, confidently asserting to Voetbal Primeur that the Dutch coach is on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte.

Slot has now chosen to give a diplomatic answer when quizzed about whether he will remain at Feyenoord next season.

When asked about the speculation over his future, he said (via 1908.nl): “I have no reason to assume I won’t be (here).

“But then you also have to give the cliche answer that it’s difficult to predict in football.

“I had also hoped last year that the whole team would stay, and we would continue with what we had.

“Two months later, we had lost 15 players, but I was still there then.

“I’m busy preparing the boys as well as possible for Sparta.

“The moment a club would become really topical for you, which you are also interested in, you might give it some thought at an unguarded moment.

“But that would never distract from the work I have to do here at Feyenoord. So I will have my full focus on how we have to play Sparta.”

Erik Ten Hag’s successful transition from the Eredivisie to the Premier League might perhaps convince Spurs that Slot is capable of making the same adjustment.

However, he is certainly not the sort of name that would convince the likes of Harry Kane of the club’s ambition.
