‘Might see himself at Spurs’ – Bent touts Rangers forward for North London switch

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could see himself at a club of Tottenham’s stature in the near future.

Morelos has been a revelation since arriving at the Ibrox and his goalscoring exploits have made him a real fan favourite among the blue half of Glasgow.

The Colombian’s exploits have reportedly caught the attention of Spurs who were linked with a move for the striker in January.

Football Insider reported recently that Rangers have drastically reduced their £25-30 million fee for Morelos due to the financial impact of the coronavirus.

Bent insisted that the Rangers star’s recent drop in form wasn’t anything to be concerned about and urged him to keep working hard to fulfil his potential.

He believes that Morales should be patient and wait for a move to a club such as Tottenham rather than taking up the first offer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Bent said: “He’s a good player, I think he’ll be alright and it’s patience for him over a move – what he doesn’t want to do is take something for the sake of it,” Bent told Football Insider.

“He hasn’t been great recently but at the same you need to just stay with it. He’s a fiery character, the Rangers fans love him and he has, at times, been very, very good for them.

“When I say it’s about timing, he might see himself at Spurs and why shouldn’t he? He might think his ability, the way he plays, is good enough for a team like Spurs which is fair enough.

“He doesn’t need to jump to anything – he can just wait and wait. He’s got time on his hands and if he’s patient he might just end up at one of those clubs. Right now he needs to keep his head down and keep working hard.”

I don’t think Morales is of the requisite quality for us. The quality of the Scottish League is about the same as League One, which is evident from the fact that a 37-year-old Defoe is still banging them in without breaking a sweat.
