Mikey Moore makes claim about Rangers stay next season ahead of Tottenham talks

Tottenham starlet Mikey Moore has made an admission about his connection with Rangers and whether he can see himself staying at the club beyond this season.

Moore initially struggled to make an impact in his first couple of months at Ibrox, but he has managed to turn things around superbly.

The sacking of Russel Martin and the appointment of Rohl turned out to be just what the doctor ordered for the Spurs youngster.

Moore managed to win over Rangers fans with his enterprising performances in the number ten role and is now going from strength to strength.

Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore open to extending Rangers stay

The 18-year-old has now confessed he has a big connection with the Glasgow club, with his girlfriend’s father being a Rangers fan and many other members of his family having a soft spot for the club.

Mikey Moore told The Daily Record: “I’ve got a few connections. My girlfriend’s whole family are Rangers fans. And my family have always liked Rangers as a club too. I understand what it means now. I get messages off my girlfriend’s dad all the time, battering me if we lose, and if we win, he’s loving me.

“I understand what it means to be here and I’ve had that support from people in my family. You need that support network when you’re going through some hard times. They’ve been a massive help to me.

“My own family are Millwall fans, so they have a bit of a link to Rangers. My uncle has been messaging me every week saying: ‘C’mon, batter them today’. I won’t read out some of the messages! But since I’ve been here, they’ve built that love again for the club. My mum is suddenly the biggest Rangers fan you’ve ever seen, with Rangers tops and all sorts. I love it here.”

The teenager indicated that he is open to staying at Ibrox for one more year but admitted that the decision will ultimately depend on other factors, including Tottenham’s plans.

When asked if he could remain at Rangers beyond next summer, the teenager responded: “I need to see what happens for the rest of this season. It’s a hard one because a lot of it is down to the people back home.

“In the summer, I’ll go home and have talks with Tottenham and my agent, as well as my family. Obviously, I love playing at this club. I’m going to do everything I can to make the most of the next five months.

“I love playing here, but we’ll see what happens, who I talk to and what they’re saying. Maybe I’ll be back, I don’t know.”

Moore admits he now shoulders more responsibility

The Tottenham academy graduate has undoubtedly grown and become mentally stronger since his summer switch to the Scottish side.

The attacking midfielder admitted that he is now taking more responsibility to bail the team out during tough situations.

Moore added: “In the last few weeks, I’ve felt more responsibility in myself to go and help the team get forward. Sometimes there are games where we’re going to be under pressure. But I’ve got that belief in myself to be the person to drive us up the pitch.

That’s what it’s about. If you have three or four, or as many people in the team with that mentality of: ‘I’m going to help the team today’ – the more we get that the more games we’ll win and points we’ll pick up.

“We need to all have that mentality. We have so much ability in this group but a lot of it at this club is about mentality. “We must have that over the next few weeks to get as many points as possible – and put ourselves back in the position we were last weekend. We have to just keep closing that gap.”
