Is Mikey Moore ready to start a Premier League game?

Supporters are still reeling from Tottenham’s 3-2 loss at Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, having led the game 2-0 at half time and looked to be in full control of the game.

A second half capitulation which saw a number of defensive errors, combined with a lack of leadership on the pitch and some questionable substitution decisions from Ange Postecoglou ended Spurs’ run of five successive victories.

Harry Redknapp makes a case for Mikey Moore

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has called for Postecoglou to start teenage sensation Mikey Moore ahead of Timo Werner.

Redknapp told talkSPORT (07/10/24 at 8:15 am): “I like the other kid who came on, I think he looks a better wide left player (than Werner), Mikey Moore.

“I know he is just a kid, but he has got something. He looks like a real player for the future or for now, for me. I think he looks the real deal.”

Heung-min Son‘s hamstring injury has seen Postecoglou decide to select Werner for the Premier League matches against Manchester United and Brighton in the Tottenham captain’s absence.

Werner spurned two goalscoring opportunities at Old Trafford and also was a figure of frustration at the Amex Stadium when he failed to find Brennan Johnson with his cross in the opening minute which would have led to a certain goal for the Welshman.

It’s time for Mikey Moore to start ahead of Timo Werner

With Spurs not back in action until October 19th when they host London rivals West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League, it remains to be seen whether the international break will prove to act as enough time for Son to recover.

If not, Redknapp is spot on in calling for Moore to start. While Werner is the more experienced player, he lacks the cutting edge in important moments and it is far better for the club to look to progress Moore’s development, rather than a loanee who is unlikely to be with us next season.
