‘Misrepresented and disingenuous’ – Pundit slams report about Pochettino and Conte

Simon Jordan has slammed reports suggesting that Daniel Levy wants to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to Tottenham Hotspur if Antonio Conte walks away.

In his press conference last Friday, Antonio Conte hit back at reports suggesting he was going to walk away from Tottenham and questioned why some media outlets were creating a problem between him and the club (Football.London).

However, the Tottenham head coach’s strong words have not completely deterred publications from continuing to claim that the Italian’s days at the North London club are numbered.

The Telegraph have claimed that Levy will be ‘straight on the phone’ to Pochettino should Conte decide to leave Spurs in the summer.

This was then followed up by a report in The Times, suggesting that Levy does not expect Conte to be in charge come September and that the Spurs chairman is ‘aching to reappoint’ Pochettino.

This has not been helped by Conte’s comments last night after the defeat to Burnley, in which he seemed to imply that he needed to hold talks with the hierarchy over the club’s direction (Football London).

Jordan has now hit back at these assertions, accusing the journalists in question of printing incorrect stories to rile people up.

The former Crystal Palace chairman said on talkSPORT: “I read an article in the Sunday Times from Rod Liddle that the done deal is that Daniel Levy is absolutely desperate to get Pochettino back. And Conte is aware of this.

“I mean I don’t know where this rubbish comes from. I just look at it sometimes and think it’s just disingenuous nonsense.

“I don’t like it. I think it’s inaccurate, misrepresented and disingenuous. It also gives a certain section of the media a disservice, it’s just about spinning people.”

Spurs Web Opinion

In the cost-per-click online media environment we live in, the footballing media have increasingly resorted to publishing baseless, sensationalist stories for economic reasons.

They continue to appeal to the lowest common denominator among football fans and it is reassuring to see the likes of Jordan, who is one of the few sane voices in football media, calling them out.
