Reports suggest that the transfer of Luka Modric to Inter Milan hinges on Real Madrid precuring the signature of Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Sky Sports Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Spurs have put a huge 200-million-euro price tag on the Dane’s head to ward off any Madrid attempts.

Modric’s agents will speak to Real Madrid after the Super Cup tie with Atletico Madrid tomorrow night, and are expected to push for the Croatian to leave to join the Serie A outfit.

However, Real Madrid are unlikely to sell without a suitable replacement lined up.

Eriksen’s current contract at Tottenham has two years to run and there has been speculation suggesting that the club are working on a new deal for the playmaker.

  1. Eriksen is as key to Spurs as Modric was when he was here. In fact, when the Croat did leave it was only Bale’s brilliance, that next season, which masked the fact we’d completely lost our midfield balance ..something which Spurs as a club has always thrived on in our pass and move game. There are few Eriksens out there, let alone any who are available and for less than £150m etc.. He is as vital to Spurs as Kane and Alli ..perhaps more so ..so any sale, at any amount, would be disastrous. In fact, we should be looking to find someone similar (but playing deeper in central midfield as a playmaker) who can complement Eriksen and occasionally replace him further forward when required. We’d love our own Xavi and Iniesta (the engine room of Barca press and pass for years) and short of Modric coming back to us, let’s at least ensure we don’t ruin this squad and our immediate future success by selling our own Iniesta, in Eriksen!

    • Wholeheartedly agree Eriksen is a vital part of Tottenham’s midfield and arguably its chief orchestrator/playmaker. A Spurs frontline without Eriksen would make a huge difference in their ability to create and selling him on would be an undeniable mistake. I think it is absolutely essential that Spurs hang on to the great Dane if you excuse the pun, he is what makes Tottenham tick!
