Modric: Spurs is a big club and we are happy here

Luka Modric - Tottenham news

Luka Modric has set his sights on challenging for major honours at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Croatian midfielder believes that Spurs will hold onto their star players even if the club fail to secure a top four finish and that the squad is on the verge of something special.

“We are close [to winning something],” he said. “In front of us is a bright future if we stay together.

“We need to take positives from this year and from the Champions League also, and try to put that into next season.

“We need to learn from mistakes and try to fight for winning the title, but the Premier League is not easy.

“It’s the best competition in the world and it’s not easy to win it. You have a lot of great teams: Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal.

“There are a lot of rivalries and it’s not easy but we have a bright future and why not, in the next years try to win something? League or FA Cup or something like that.”

“We enjoyed it this year playing in the Champions League but a lot of players are still with long terms on their contracts and no-one is thinking about [leaving],” he said.

“We are all thinking positive and that we will manage to qualify for Champions League next year and that’s it.

“We don’t have that on our mind, if we don’t qualify. We are only thinking positive how we will qualify again.”

“We all have long contracts at the club and it doesn’t matter if we qualify or not qualify, I think the team will stay together,” he added.

“But, like I said, no-one’s thinking about that. We are all thinking positive and that we will qualify for Champions League again.

“But even if not, it’s possible, but no-one is thinking to leave Tottenham.

“We are happy here and we are enjoying Tottenham. It’s a big club and that’s it.”
