Modric: Spurs is a big club and we are happy here

Luka Modric - Tottenham news

Luka Modric has set his sights on challenging for major honours at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Croatian midfielder believes that Spurs will hold onto their star players even if the club fail to secure a top four finish and that the squad is on the verge of something special.

“We are close [to winning something],” he said. “In front of us is a bright future if we stay together.

“We need to take positives from this year and from the Champions League also, and try to put that into next season.

“We need to learn from mistakes and try to fight for winning the title, but the Premier League is not easy.

“It’s the best competition in the world and it’s not easy to win it. You have a lot of great teams: Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal.

“There are a lot of rivalries and it’s not easy but we have a bright future and why not, in the next years try to win something? League or FA Cup or something like that.”

“We enjoyed it this year playing in the Champions League but a lot of players are still with long terms on their contracts and no-one is thinking about [leaving],” he said.

“We are all thinking positive and that we will manage to qualify for Champions League next year and that’s it.

“We don’t have that on our mind, if we don’t qualify. We are only thinking positive how we will qualify again.”

“We all have long contracts at the club and it doesn’t matter if we qualify or not qualify, I think the team will stay together,” he added.

“But, like I said, no-one’s thinking about that. We are all thinking positive and that we will qualify for Champions League again.

“But even if not, it’s possible, but no-one is thinking to leave Tottenham.

“We are happy here and we are enjoying Tottenham. It’s a big club and that’s it.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. We have got to stop selling our best players if we are to progress. We should not be bullied by the likes of Man Utd etc. I actually think we have the best, grounded squad we have had in a long time and Berbatov was the last bad egg we actually had. I am just thankful to hear it from the mouth of the player himself and hopefully Levy will not let any bids be entertained and concentrate on getting us this new stadium. We can then compliment Modric and co with world class players who will win us these elusive cups and titles.

  2. Good to read this, but I will bet you that befor Saturday, some third rate blogger will be linking Bale, Modric et al, with a move away to secure CL football.

With regard to Spurs Murph, we have not been a selling team for a few years now, but if you get a player who decides that he is going to do whatever he can to get a move, and we are not doing too well, and we are going to make a big profit, I say "Get rid". But from the position we are now in, if we get a player that behaves like Berbatov did, I would say, "let him rot in the reserves".
