Luka Modric has paid tribute to Tottenham’s supporters after his return from injury.

The Croatian came off the bench during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves to make his first appearance since fracturing his fibula against Birmingham City in August.

He told the club’s official website: “The reception the fans gave me when I came on meant a lot to me. They have been great and I want to thank them for that.

“I’m glad to be back but overall I’m disappointed because we lost the game. Now we just need to turn it around and win on Wednesday.

“Three months is a long time and it’s going to be difficult when you come back. I just need to take it step by step and hopefully I will be back to how I was before the injury very soon.

“It’s always better when you’ve got another game soon after a defeat because you can recover straight away. Hopefully we will play better than we did on Saturday.”
