‘Moment to change’ – Director issues update on rumoured Tottenham target

Lyon sporting director Juninho has handed a potential transfer blow to Tottenham Hotspur by revealing that striker Moussa Dembele, who was previously reported to be on the North Londoners’ radar is likely to join Atletico Madrid this month.

Dembele was claimed to be one of the names at the top of Jose Mourinho’s wish list during the summer transfer window when the club sought to sign a suitable back up to Harry Kane (L’Equipe via Sport Witness).

According to GFFN, the 24-year-old came close to a move to Spurs in the final days of the window before Lyon boss Rudi Garcia blocked the move.

Tottenham eventually moved for Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan deal from Benfica but reports indicate that the club are still on the lookout for another centre-forward this month.

The likes of Diego Costa (La Razon), Wout Weghorst (Bild’s Christian Falk) and Arkadiusz Milik (Express) have been mentioned as potential targets for Mourinho’s side.

However, it now seems like Dembele will not be coming to Spurs, with Juninho confirming that the striker has made it clear that he would like to move to Atletico.

The Lyon sporting director told Telefoot Chaine (as relayed by GFFN): “There is a possibility (of Dembele leaving). Moussa came to see me, he thinks that this is the moment to change teams, that he has lost a bit of motivation, this was not something we foresaw, I like him a lot.

“Keeping someone who does not really want to live in an intense way through the next five months, that is not ideal. We are in talks with Atletico, I think that Moussa has found an agreement with Atletico.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not expect us to sign a striker this window despite the heavy links. The club will likely make do with Vinicius as Kane’s main back up until the end of the season and reassess the situation in the summer.
